Seeking to draw appeal for new tenants to a recently purchased bland professional office building, the developer-building owner commissioned us to design a feature that would provide a striking main entrance. The intention was to attract interested tenants to empty portions of the building and provide a beacon from the parking lot to the main entrance. As the project evolved, the structure was distilled to an open, elaborate roof canopy – a non-building. Despite the lack of a program, we included improvements to the accessibility of the entrance. A meandering sidewalk through landscaped areas yields a gentle path toward the lobby. Once within the main lobby, interior finish upgrades lend a high-end professional office appearance with rich finishes that visually lead one to the elevator. This secret treasure signals the building’s tenants and visitors, whether folly or practical protection.
